Online Journalism

About the online journalism internship
The online journalism internship is unique in the Daily Bruin in that interns not only work with a primary department, such as News, Sports, Photo or Design, but also with the online department where they will be trained in online production, social media and collaborative projects. As a member of the select online journalism team, you will be embedded in your primary section with the expectation that you work within your section and collaboratively with the online journalism team on at least one online journalism package per quarter. This is an exciting opportunity to learn the most relevant, up-to-date skills and practices that are in demand in the world of professional media. Please remember that you will need to download and turn in two applications (one for your primary section and one for Multimedia), which should be paper-clipped together.

Any student who applies to work for the Daily Bruin is applying for an internship. Not all applicants will be accepted. Those who are accepted are guaranteed an internship position at the Daily Bruin on the condition that they complete a series of training workshops. Training workshops are mandatory.

Deadlines and selection
The application deadline for winter quarter has passed. Online journalism will recruit again fall quarter. If you'd like to apply, applications will be posted here in the first few weeks of fall quarter.

An important note on the workshops
The training workshops are led by a professional journalist and will give you basic theoretical and practical training.
Please note: All interns must attend a set of mandatory workshops. If you cannot attend a workshop or multiple workshops, your internship will be discontinued and you will have to reapply. If you need clarification, please see the media adviser, Amy Emmert. Questions about workshop attendance must be directed to Amy.

After the workshops
Once you've completed the workshops, you will start working at the Daily Bruin as an intern. In time you could become a paid staffer.
