Design

About the design internship
The design internship is meant for students interested in working for the Daily Bruin design department. Designers lay out the pages of the Daily Bruin. They collect photos, graphics, illustrations, stories and other elements and put them together to deliver content visually to readers in an organized, effective and sometimes creative way. The design section also recruits artists for editorial cartoons and illustrations. The department is accepting illustrators for the illustration part of the design department. The application is available on the "Cartoons and Illustration" page.

Any student who applies to work for the Daily Bruin is applying for an internship. Not all applicants will be accepted. Those who are accepted are guaranteed an internship position at the Daily Bruin on the condition that they complete a series of training workshops. Training workshops are mandatory.

Deadlines and selection
The application deadline for winter quarter has passed. Design will recruit again spring quarter. If you'd like to apply, applications will be posted here in the first few weeks of spring quarter.

An important note on the workshops
The training workshops are led by a professional journalist and will give you basic theoretical and practical training. Please note: All interns must attend a set of mandatory workshops. No exceptions will be made. If you cannot attend a workshop or multiple workshops, your internship will be discontinued and you will have to reapply. If you need clarification, please see the media adviser, Amy Emmert. Questions about workshop attendance must be directed to Amy.

After the workshops
Once you've completed the workshops, you will start working at the Daily Bruin as an intern. In time you could become a paid staffer.
